Frequently Asked Questions
What level is the challenge for?
No matter your level, if you want to improve your reading comprehension, this challenge is for you. You’ll choose the version of each text that matches your current reading ability—and the more challenging versions will be waiting for you as you grow.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What if I fall behind?
No problem. The daily tasks are manageable (~30 minutes a day), and you’ll have lifetime access to the materials. Go at your own pace if needed.
Can I read all three versions if I want to?
Absolutely! If you have time and energy, you can work through multiple versions. But it’s also fine to stick with one version per text for now, and revisit the harder ones later as your skills improve.
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
You’ll learn how to actually read real Chinese—not just stumble through it.
Over 30 days, you’ll train your brain to recognize native sentence patterns, expand your vocabulary naturally, and stop getting paralyzed when you hit unfamiliar words.
You'll build:
● Confidence reading real-world Chinese without constantly reaching for a dictionary.
● Speed by recognizing common structures and expressions automatically.
● Understanding by seeing how native Chinese really works—not the simplified textbook version.
The goal isn’t just to survive these texts.
The goal is to transform how you read Chinese—so you can move forward faster, with way less frustration.
What's so special about this method anyway?
Most learners try to jump straight from textbook Chinese to full native texts—and end up overwhelmed, frustrated, and stuck.
We do it differently.
We give you three versions of each text, so you can choose the difficulty level that's right for you.
You start where you are right now—without getting crushed by the difficulty.
Then you revisit the harder versions when you're ready, turning each text into a stepping stone for long-term growth.
Instead of guessing your way through native material, you build real skills—layer by layer, week by week.
The result?
You stop feeling like an outsider looking in—and start reading Chinese with confidence.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily tasks should only take 30 minutes. The principle of the challenge is, "do a little each day and big results will follow." 30 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your Chinese.
You can break it up into 5 minute chunks throughout the day:
• 5 minutes after breakfast
• 5 minutes on your lunch break
• 5 minutes before dinner
• 5 minutes while waiting for the bus...
• and so on, whenever is convenient for you!
The secret sauce is the consistency - working at it for a little bit of time every day. You'll be amazed at the massive progress you make from simply showing up every day to give focused attention to one aspect of your Chinese!
What if I decide the challenge isn't for me?
All of our products come with a 30-day money back guarantee. If you are unsatisfied with it for any reason, reach out to me at any point during the 30 days and I'll issue you a full refund.
How long do I have access to the course after I finish the challenge?
How does "lifetime access" sound? While the challenge is meant to be 30 days, we know life gets in the way sometimes. So, you will have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like.
What exactly does "lifetime access" mean?
In practical terms, it means the course materials will be available online for as long as Outlier is in business. If we do ever go out of business or otherwise need to remove the course for any reason, we'll make the material available for you to download for a period of at least 6 months.
