FAQs

Who are Ash and John and why should I trust them?

Dr. Ash Henson has a PhD in Chinese from National Taiwan Normal University. His dissertation focused on using the latest research in paleography and historical Chinese phonology to create a new framework for analyzing Chinese characters based on their functional components. He was a PhD Candidate in the Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language department before that. He has professional proficiency in Mandarin, Classical Chinese, and Dutch, conversational proficiency in Cantonese and German, and is learning Japanese.

John Renfroe studied Linguistics and Paleography at the master's level at National Taiwan Normal University. His coursework and research focused on excavated Warring States bamboo texts, historical Chinese character morphology, and the Shuowen Jiezi 說文解字 and its commentaries and criticism. He has professional proficiency in Mandarin and Classical Chinese, and is currently learning Japanese and Cantonese.

Who is this training for?

If you’re a beginner, this course will help you start off on the right foot.

If you have experience with Cantonese, but still have a hard time with speaking, then it will help you build up your inner database of correct sentences and get an intuitive grasp of how to build sentences, and lower the amount of thinking required to speak!

The techniques we emphasize are very simple but very powerful. All you need is a pair of headphones!
